Mull Historical Society’s recent critically acclaimed album In My Mind There’s A Photograph was released in May 2026 on three vinyl variants, CD & digital formats. It is the second album in Colin MacIntyre’s collaborative series with a selection of writers and the first with independent label Last Night From Glasgow. This accomplished collection features lyrical contributions from a line-up of world-leading authors, who were asked to reflect on a photo significant to them. Colin celebrates the release with a run of live shows throughout September and appearances at book festivals in October and November.

New single Midnight Sun was written by Colin MacIntyre with Booker Prize winning Irish author Paul Lynch, returning to the memories of his grandparent’s now empty house. Paul explains the significance of the inspiration behind the track:

“There is a photo of my grandparents that I keep in my writing room that I took when I was 18. For the song collaboration with MHS I used this photograph as inspiration for the lyrics alongside a memory of a singular afternoon from my childhood spent at my grandparent’s home. Colin has taken these memories and produced a gorgeous song. Somehow, magically, he has turned an elegy for my grandparents into an upbeat stomper. I just love the chorus!”

Three previous singles were released ahead of the full LP; Dopamine Eyes with Irvine Welsh, Cattle Bellswith Alexander McCall Smith and Where Are The Heroes? with Dan Richards. The full line-up of contributors is Irvine Welsh, Len Pennie, Ali Smith, Colum McCann, Alexander McCall Smith, Yiyun Li, Louise Welsh, Jehan Bseiso, Irenosen Okojie, Paul Lynch, Alan Johnson and Dan Richards. These writers are best-sellers, Pulitzer, Booker, Women’s Prize, Costa, Baileys, Palestinian Book Award, Pen Hemingway, AKO Caine Prize For African Writing & Saltire Award-winners.

The songs shine a light on hope, empathy and understanding, exploring themes of childhood, place, identity, memory, family and language. Spanning the globe, tracks explore the horrific impact of Gaza and 9/11, from Inverness to Botswana, from China to Glasgow. Colin, an award-winning author himself, allows these stories to bloom beautifully, providing a platform for the powerful lyrical content. The album has been carefully arranged and produced by Colin MacIntyre and recorded on the Isle of Mull by Gordon Maclean. It also features a guest spot from the London African Gospel Choir.

In My Mind There’s A Photograph was released on three shades of vinyl (Indie Exclusive Sea Salt Blue, LNFG exclusive Honey, Oatmeal), manufactured at Scotland’s only pressing plant Seabass Vinyl. The album achieved success in the charts:
