NEW MULL HISTORICAL SOCIETY ALBUM!!
‘IN MY MIND THERE’S A PHOTOGRAPH‘
(Nb: actual cover image to be revealed)
Following on from the critical and commercial success of Mull Historical Society’s “In My Room There’s A Room” – Colin MacIntyre again looks to the literary world for inspiration. The second in his MHS albums series in collaboration with world-leading authors will be ‘In My Mind There’s A Photograph‘, featuring lyrical contributions from world-leading authors on a single significant photo to them. They are Best-sellers, Pulitzer, Booker, Women’s Prize, Costa, Baileys, Palestinian Book Award, Pen Hemingway, AKO Caine Prize For African Writing & Saltire Award-winners: Irvine Welsh, Len Pennie, Ali Smith, Colum McCann, Alexander McCall Smith, Yiyun Li, Louise Welsh, Jehan Bseiso, Irenosen Okojie, Paul Lynch, Alan Johnson and Dan Richards.
Colin – an award-winning author himself – once again plays ‘Elton to their Bernie”, with the songs shining a light on hope, empathy and understanding, just what we need in this fractured world — taking in themes of childhood, place, identity, memory, family, language and more. The album comes out on Last Night From Glasgow (LNFG) and spans the globe, from the horrific impacts of 9-11 and the war in Gaza, to tales from Inverness to Botswana, China to Glasgow, featuring a stunning guest spot from London African Gospel Choir. Colin’s remarkable ear for melody yet again provides the perfect platform for the powerful lyrical content. Produced by Colin, and recorded on Mull by Gordon Maclean, the LP – his 10th – will be released on three shades of gatefold vinyl, CD and lossless download. The official release is set for March 2026 but you can pre-order now to get it early! This is off the back of the first 3 MHS albums reissues re-entering the Scottish Top 20 Album Chart! The full album cover and package will be revealed shortly.
Says Colin— ‘I’m so excited by this record, and to be working with such great writers and the progressive LNFG. It’s been a privilege to step into the author’s photos, making me think about such questions as, Why is one person’s image of war, another person’s image of home? And all starting from the same universal theme: a photograph. The fun part is bringing my two creative worlds together, music & writing, but what I’ve discovered is they’re really the same: it’s all storytelling. The author’s words started to feel like my own. They’ve taken me around the world, but I’m proud this is “Made on Mull”.’
Says LNFG: ‘On a personal LNFG note, we are immensely proud to be working with one of Scotland’s finest ever songwriters. We cannot wait to bring this album to you in 2026 and are quite delighted by the serendipity of the cat number – 222 being the number associated with harmony and trust. What could be more appropriate?’ – Ian Smith, MD, LNFG
